Beware: The Chibis Have Taken Control!

And now... for my 2020 year end word count meme! I... don't imagine it will change much in the next 2 days, so I'm going to go ahead and post it now.

So, exciting things in the spreadsheet this year... I WROTE THINGS. Seriously, guys, this is the best year I've had in terms of word count in a very long time. (Like... 7 years ago kind of long time.) Who knew that this clusterfuck of a year would be the year that got me writing again? XD ...then again, I'm not wasting all my energy on commuting to work and dealing with BEING at work and I'm free to use my downtime at home however I choose. Combine that with finally falling into a new muse fandom? It was a match made in quarantine hell. ;D

Even though I've sort of moved on to other fandoms at this point, I really have to thank The Untamed for that. It was exactly the fandom I needed at exactly the time I needed it, and I made some amazing friends who were very encouraging, too. I'm still kind of... half-in the fandom, and I have some other stories that I would really like to finish for it, so I haven't left it entirely, but that's the fandom that got me going again and it will forever have a special place in my heart.

So, I've done one of these most years and today's the day. I'm not counting WiPs this year because I honestly just don't have the energy, but here's everything that I published within 2015... and wow. Turns out this was my most pathetic year yet. *sigh*

There were three months (July, September, and October) in which I wrote absolutely nothing, and most other months the best I managed was to write 5K-6K words. That's pathetic for me. It really is. Then again, this semester was a disaster for me in more ways than one. Healthwise... ugh. I've been sick so often, I really wonder wtf my immune system is even DOING. And mentally I've not been anywhere near at my best. School and work are both kicking my ass and I don't see that situation improving any time soon. I've become almost phobic about writing and the fact that I'm getting so little feedback on the things I post is leading me to think that I really am sucking that badly these days. And since just about everything I write feels completely uninspired right now... I'm willing to believe that it's all crap. And that's not helping. *sigh*

I don't know if I just need a break from Les Mis? Or from writing? Or from life? I have no idea. But i do know that on my worst years I still have always cracked 100,000 words worth of writing and this year I didn't even come close. I think in the coming year I'm going to try to actually build time into my schedule for writing and try to get myself back in the habit. Because habit and hard work trump inspiration any day of the week.

...here's hoping that'll work, anyway. *sigh*

My mother moved from one town to another when she was 16 years old. Just a couple of miles away, but at that age, that may as well be a continent. Her father had just died, and she left all her friends and everything familiar behind. Her last two years of high school were... well. Not pleasant ones. Fifty years later, you can still here the resentment in her voice when she talks about that move. There are really only three people from her second school that she ever mentioned with any fondness at all, only one of those three was someone she called a friend -- her best friend, Diane.

Now, I never met Diane. She moved to England at least 8 years before I was born. And my mom never really talked about her when I was growing up -- not until I was older. Turns out, they'd lost touch. My mom had been to visit her before I was born, but by the time we visited England when I was 16, they'd lost track of each other. But when I was old enough to understand that that could happen, my mom talked about her and the memories were always good ones.

( Then a few years ago, my mom got on Facebook, and, lo and behold... they found each other! )

...AND I'M NOT READY.

But that means that I'm going to start using my journal again, I guess. ^_~
