Bring on the Shows!
Jul. 30th, 2010 02:43 pmSo, this has turned into Broadway week for me -- or "off-Broadway" as the case may be. ^_^ I was originally slated to see Lend Me a Tenor for the second time this past Tuesday (just as hysterically funny as the first time -- go see it before it closes!) and Falling for Eve tomorrow, both with my mother. For her, that's already a lot in one week. She prefers to spread out her viewings. ^_^ *wistful sigh* I remember those innocent days... *eyes a
msorange21* ...I've since been corrupted. ;-D
So, the point. ^_^ At the end of last week, I was invited to see yet another show this week: Abraham Lincoln's Big Gay Dance Party. It just opened off-Broadway on the 27th with an official opening date of Aug. 11th. Through an incredible set of coincidences, I ended up going with
zoicite as a last minute replacement for a friend of hers that couldn't go. I must say, I'm intensely amused that all of the new friends I make these days a) seem to be met at Broadway shows and b) don't live in the same state I do. O_O *laughs* Just my luck, huh? At least they're close enough that visiting isn't so hard and meeting in the city is fairly easy. ^_^
Anyway, she, being a very brave lady, invited me to come along with her in the hopes of making a new friend. And we had a total blast! ^_^ She's just as sweet in person as she is on LJ and the show was fantastic. It has a very unique set-up. It's a three act play with an opening scene and an ending scene. The three acts in between, however, are played in a different order each night, depending on audience selection. And depending on what order you see those scenes in, your opinions on what is going on in the show and your sympathies for the characters can vary widely. It makes for an interesting performance.
On top of that, the story is very comedic and yet very moving at the same time. In spite of myself I found myself liking each one of the characters, even the ones I started out hating. The acting was a little shaky in one or two spots (i.e. a muffed line here and there), but being as it was only their third performance, I'm willing to cut them quite a bit of slack. ^_^ I can only assume they'll get better with time. I'd love to say more, but I don't want to spoil the show. So, all I will say is check out the website, I highly recommend it and go see the show! :D
*firmly tells herself that she will not fic for Jerry*
*...or Anton*
Not.
Aw heck.
