Oh, for goodness' sake. I thought I was gonna take a break for a while and work on something else! O_o;;; But no, Claude just had to go ahead and be pushy, complaining about not getting any classroom time on screen and Berger getting to do all the narrating last fic... then the next thing I know, I'm 2000 words into the second sequel to "Where Do I Go?". *falls over* Maybe it's 'cuz I'm going to see Hair again tomorrow? O_O Oh... who cares?

*eyes the collection of FY, DP, PR:DT and MD chibis* *wince* Sorry...? Really...?

Claude: *twitch* You're apologizing to them? I'll bet they're staking out prayer offerings in thanks for keeping you away from them!

R-chan: *pouts* There's no reason to be nasty...

Claude: *vein pop* You're planning for me to have a Viet Nam flashback in the middle of my classroom! Can you blame me for being a little upset??

R-chan: *deadpan* I never said you were gonna have a flashback in the classroom.

Claude: *wails* But you were thinking it!!

R-chan: *blush* *shuffles feet* *mumbles* Just contemplating... Not really thinking...

Claude: O_O It's the same thing!!

Berger: *cuddles the Claude* Shh... Shh.... There now... It's all gonna be OK...

Claude: *twitch* Tell me, Berger... Did that work for you when they were trying to trap you into the white padded room?

Berger: *blush* No... but you can't blame me for trying!

Darrvyn: *smirk* ...Only for succeeding.

R-chan: *sweatrain* What the hell are you doing here?

Darrvyn: *slow smile* Just reminding you that the fanfic chibis aren't the only ones here that you've been neglecting.

R-chan: *squeaks* *runs away*

Darrvyn: *eg* Works every time...

OK... so I was re-reading some of my original stories and I can see that they sort of settled into a pattern. For those few who have been following, my first posting was about Alex and Darrvyn (can be found at my website in the "original" section), my overly angsty slash couple. For those of you who didn't figure it out -- the start of that relationship was more than slightly non-con. *shakes finger at Darr* Bad boy, no doughnut.

*coughs*

Anyhoo, after awhile, Alex angsting all over my keyboard started to get on my nerves, and I started to lose the thread of the story. So, I fumbled around in the chibi gallery and pulled out Richard. I thought he was cute and might be fun and easy to play with, so I reached back into the bag and pulled out his wife. This made him even more fun, because, let's face it... Calynn kicks major ass.

But now, as I sit here staring at my chibis, I realize that I have flubbed. She got brief mention in sniplets here and there, but I completely left out another major player in this storyline.

Alex's twin sister.

*sweatdrop*

So, since I haven't written up the beginning just yet, allow me to give you background: When Darrvyn initially invades Rilbana, he takes the twins hostage. (For the record, they were about sixteen at the time -- the main bulk of the story will take place when they are ~22.) Alex was training with the Lord Martial (Marshal? :-P) at the time and his sister (who was nameless -- or named too many times ^_^ -- until now) was training with the healers. Darr put both of their skills to good use, but soon realized that Annora's (the name I finally settled on ^_^) presence was... hmm... hindering the development of any kind of truly consensual relationship he might develop with Alex. So, he makes a deal with Alex -- you stay with me willingly and I'll see your sister to safety. Alex, young and naive as he is, agrees without asking for further details.

Idiot.

Anyway, Darr sees her to safety, all right... but not back to Rilbana. He brings her to Canaspur to be held hostage in the capital. Of course, as a royal prisoner she will be treated well... but she won't be allowed to leave. Now, eventually, Annora ends up working the situation around to her advantage because she is a clever and conniving little thing, but that's a story for another ficlet. ^_^ The point I make now is that Annora is another strong character that I wanted to pull out of the chibi gallery and play with. So... I did. ^_^

Enjoy!

An original ficlet in which Alex is angsty (as usual), Cynrik is sleazy (as usual), Annora is proud and defiant (as usual), and Darrvyn aaaaalmost gets a clue... but doesn't (as usual). )

Questions, comments, pineapples? Oh, come on, you know you want to! ^_~

And I'm sure this goes without saying, but do remember that this entire storyline and set of characters is the sole intellectual property of me. ^_^ Don't take.

*coughs* I know I've been somewhat absent of late, and I really have no excuse. But my friend Tina ([livejournal.com profile] twilightdawn3) and I were hanging out tonight and discussing HTML, old stories, stagnating writing abilities and RP characters that were languishing from neglect. Then Tina turned to me and said, "Hey, how about we write a crackfic?"

And, being the sensible one, I naturally said... "Move over and let me type."

*pause* What do you mean you can see my horns? I was pretty sure the halo was duct-taped over them...

Tina: *pokes the Renee* Honey, you lost that in vet school.

Renee: *sheepish grin* A girl can try, though... right?

*coughs* Moving along! To give you a little background, Lauren ([livejournal.com profile] commodoresexual) and I (*offers a small wave to the Wren*) created several original characters and a universe for them to play in that occasionally bears a resemblance to our own. Then we invited Tina along to play in it with hers. To explain said universe would take far more mental capacity than I have at this current time, but to sum it up: Brett and Rhea are grad students at what is essentially a demon-hunting/magic training school that masquerades as a regular old university in the heart of NYC. Rhea is a rune mage and Brett is essentially a battery/energy conductor with legs. A really strong battery/energy conductor with legs. Who has virtually no sense of control over the energy he manifests/channels. Rhea enjoys this as it allows her to experiment. Brett enjoys this as the screw ups that inevitably happen are often rather amusing... albeit often painful.

And so... we have the current scene. For lack of confusion's sake, Brett is mine, Rhea is Tina's, and...

I'm sorry...? )

Questions, comments, papayas?

Nuriko: *twitch* Again with the fruit?

Duo: *snickers*

Nuriko: *growls* Throws papayas*

Tina: *innocent smile* You realize, at some point, there will be a sequel?

Brett: No! For the love of G-d, no!

Nuriko: *snerks* I told you so.

Renee: *looks at Tina*

Tina and Renee: *evil grin* Mwa-ha-ha-ha-ha!

From an entry 13 months ago:

"Waah... Seimei, I'm sorry! I know it's not what I promised, but I got distracted. O_o;;; I'm working on the CLAMP fic, too, but Sei-chan's not cooperating. *sigh* Subaru keeps trying to nudge into the fic in front of him and I think Sei-chan and Goku are in cahoots. *makes faces* And Setsuka (the former Sakurazukamori) keeps trying to tell me that Nokoru is her son. *falls over* And the scary thing is that it makes some insane sort of sense to me... *twitch*"

*blinks* *sweatdrop* I wonder how long after that post I started writing my Seishirou/Nokoru fic... ^_^ *browses* *chuckles* Not long, apparently. Less than 3 months. *eg* It's amazing what you find when you browse through old entries...

*rereads some more old entries*

Calynn: *wakes up, yawns, shakes her head and begins to turn a predatory gaze in the chibi's direction*

Chibi: *blanches, turns tail and runs...*

*...right into...*

Darrvyn: *just smiles serenely down at the chibi* Well, well... look what we have here...

Chibi: Waaaaaaah!!! *cowers*

Richard: *scoops up the chibi and cuddles her* *scowls at the collective group of origi-fic chibis* You're frightening her. Please stop.

Chibi: *cheers for Richard -- with pom-poms and everything*

Alex: *aside to Corwin* You know... it's strange. Once upon a time, this story was about me. I'm getting the feeling, more and more, that it's about Richard.

Corwin: *chuckles, claps Alex on the shoulder* If I were you, I wouldn't complain.

Alex: Point well taken.

Chibi: *scowls*

Got bored, decided to fuss with journal styles. I'd really like to create my own, but I'm afraid it's over my head for the time being. *sighs* Someday... In the meantime I'll settle for futzing with the ready-made ones.

Brain-dead, now. Going to go find a way to kill time until 2:30. Maybe I'll go watch a surgery. Or maybe not. Geh, I need a vacation. *makes faces* Only 3 more days... Only 3 more days... *_*

And the chibi got off her butt and did this week's 15 minute ficlet. ^_^ Enjoy! )
eirenical: (Default)
Testing a new layout -- more futzing will come later. Also, to commermerate the occasion, a new snippet of orginal ficlet. ^_^ This is a scene from a longer scene that I'm working on. Some background: Darrvyn's company has attacked Zanas. Alex (and several other officers and soldiers) were captured. Calynn intended to "question" the Dragon's Second... not knowing that he was, in fact, Richard's brother. O_o;;; She had him released from the cell and now she and Alex and Richard are having a nice little chat... Or something. XD

...Or something... )

Comments? Questions? Constructive criticisms?

Oh, BTW, I will get the sakura back... I'm just waiting for my "paid account" status to go through. *sigh* Givin' this whole "paying" thing a try... ^_^

2:00 PM *cheers* Yeah! I have the sakura back! *shakes fingers* Someone'd better help me feed it, now! *eg*
eirenical: (Default)
That's right. You heard me correctly. ^_^ My original characters now all have names. *beams* And a family tree. *g* A very complex and twisted family tree... O_o;;

How did I end up part of this family? You're all nucking futs! )

As you can see... we've gotten quite convoluted. *eg* I like convoluted. *^_^* I may include the meanings of some of the names at a later date... or not. *shrug*

Oh -- and before we get all confused, Alexander and Nerise are twins, and yes, both Alex and Darr are men. Oh, don't look so shocked. You knew that one was coming. ^_~

Another short story coming... probably during Theriogenology. *snickers*

10:30 Update

And some working country names (In bold are the ones I'm leaning towards):
Le'baran, Rilbana: Alrich & Kerrianne
Rilbana, Rinin, Lauti: Shayla
Zanas, Azira, Rathur: Calynn & Richard
Nattuca, Canaspur: Cynrik & Bailee

Oh G-d... I need city names, too... *whimper*

Map!

OK, all this story plotting that Melissa and I have been doing has really paid off. ^_^ I now have a map! (For the short story I just wrote.) Explanations and notes on geography, weather and such will come later. Also I need to add in rivers, mountains, lakes and things. ^_^ But for now:

The map!

The map with countries circled: Green = Darrvyn's home country, Orange = Shayla's home country, Pink = Alex and Kerrianne's home country, Black = Calynn and Richard's country.

Please tell me what you think. ^_^ I drew this freehand... O_O Oh yeah, dimensions of the continent: 3500 miles x 4875 miles -- roughly the size of Asia. ^_^

*smirks at Melissa* I wrote before you did! *beams* *is pleased with herself* Comments, questions, ridicule of any kind?

Quiet nights were rare. Quiet days were rarer still. When Richard found one, he treasured it. He held it close. He imprinted every moment of it onto his soul so that he could hold on to that peace until the next one came around.

Today was a quiet day.

*** ***

Richard perched in the window seat, a book propped in his lap, one finger gently holding his place among the pages as he watched his wife do her best to wear a hole in the carpet. The carpet had been a wedding gift from his parents. He loved that carpet. He loved his wife. It was no small irritation that the two so often seemed to be at odds with each other when he most wished to spend some quiet time admiring both.

Unlike himself, Calynn was never satisfied with being still. Calm was not where her strength lay. Calynn was a warrior and what she believed in, she did. It was that simple. Calynn believed in the application of force, brute or otherwise. And she was good at what she did. No enemy stood against her for long. Calynn believed in conquest. She had carved herself a kingdom from a hundred smaller tribes and she ruled it well. One of the most secure countries on the Western shore, _NAME OF COUNTRY_ was threatened by no one.

So why chose Richard as a husband? Calynn believed in shoring up her weak points and she was an astute enough tactician to know precisely where they were. She was not a politician. She was not a scholar. She was not a diplomat. Richard was all of these things. They had little in common but complemented each other well. And the alliance forged between their two kingdoms by their marriage had been nothing but beneficial to both.

And yet still there were days when Richard couldn't help but wish that his wife were just a bit more like him. It was a useless wish... but that didn't stop him from making it.

Finally unable to take the queen's pacing any longer, Richard put down his book, stood up, and intercepted her. Her scowl had been known to send lesser men fleeing in terror. A fortunate happening for Richard that marriage had made him immune. He ignored her frowning and brought his hands to rest on her upper arms, "Tell me what to say to make you more at ease and I will say it."

Calynn's dark green eyes glowered into his for only one moment more before shifting away. Clearly uncomfortable, she shuffled her feet nervously back and forth. Her answer, when she at last spoke it, was barely more than breath, "That's just it. You always know exactly what to say, exactly what to do." Her voice rose in volume as she looked up to meet Richard's eyes once more, "You don't belong here. You belong in a palace, not a drafty old fortress. You belong with the poets, the dreamers, the builders. Not here. Not with me." Her eyes filled with an earnest question, one which she would never speak, but which Richard heard just the same: Did I make a mistake?

She looked so vulnerable, a word that most would scoff to hear associated with the warrior-queen. Who knew if anyone else had ever seen her thus. That Richard did spoke volumes to him about the underlying truth to Calynn's fears.

This was a marriage of convenience. No one expected love to be found in such a match. The lucky ones found that, after a time, they grew to appreciate one another. They grew to feel affection for one another. Affection, but never love. His queen had not been prepared for that. Raised on the legends of warriors past, raised on tales of when her kingdom had once been an empire that spanned a continent, raised on myths of great queens who sacrificed everything to find true love... Calynn despaired. This life was not the stuff of fairy tales. This marriage was not the stuff of legends. And nothing about their joining was easy for her to control. For a woman who controlled everything, it was a constant source of unease. Six months into their union and no application of any of his formidable charms had changed that fact. She could ignore it when she was out of the fortress. She could put it from her mind when she was in the field. But faced with nothing but Richard's calm on a rare, quiet day, that anxiety ate away at her. So she paced. And she wore holes in Richard's favorite carpet.

He released her arms, allowing her to back a few paces away. "I have no easy answer for you. Regardless of where I do or do not belong, I am here, Calynn. I am content for now. I can't give you any more reassurance than that."

Calynn walked a few paces away, then turned and strode resolutely back. She pushed herself into Richard's personal space and stared into his earth-brown eyes, "You're so untouchable. Nothing upsets you. Nothing stirs your heart. Nothing affects you." She raised up a hand and poked Richard hard in the shoulder, "It pisses me off!"

Richard's eyes went comically wide at that last pronouncement, "I beg your pardon?"

Calynn backed off a few steps and crossed her arms over her chest, "I'm sure you do. And that's what bothers me. I don't know how to act around you, so everything I do and say comes out wrong. I'm not a noble. I'm not a lady like your mother. Language isn't my friend like it is yours. I never know what you're thinking. I never know how you're feeling. 'Content'? I hardly know what that means. No one I've ever known was 'content'. They were happy. They were sad. They were angry. They weren't 'content'." She spat out the word as though it was a bitternut.

"I... I hardly know how to answer that." For the first time in quite a long time, Richard found himself speechless. Only one other person in his life had ever challenged him quite that way, and Xander had been gone for a long time. He quirked an eyebrow at his wife, a bemused smile claiming his lips, "Let me see if I understand you. You married me because I possessed certain qualities. Now it is those very qualities that you most wish to see me rid of. Have I grasped the situation correctly?"

Calynn frowned for a moment as she deciphered his meaning from the flowery language he had used. Finally, her frown cleared and she nodded, "Exactly."

Feeling a sure headache coming on, Richard raised a hand to rub at his forehead, "Just to clarify: you wish me to be more like you, more like your people. You wish me to ignore my entire upbringing and let my every thought and feeling be known to you." He looked up at her, his bemused expression becoming wry, "In short, you wish me to be vulgar."

Another frown as Calynn absorbed his words, "I'm sure there was an insult in there somewhere."

Richard let a small laugh escape his lips, "There's hope for you yet. Last year you wouldn't have picked up on it."

This time, Calynn smiled. It was small, it was shy, and it was tender, "Last year... I didn't have you."

Richard took a step closer to her and matched her tenderness with his own, "And I didn't have you."

Another step brought them into each other's space. Callyn looked up into her husband's eyes and asked once more, "Richard... are you happy here?"

Richard wrapped his arms around his wife and pressed a kiss to her brow, "More like you, hmm?" Callyn nodded against his chest. Richard let out a breath and along with it a tension that he'd been unaware of harboring. His eyes began to sparkle, "Yes, I'm happy. Inexplicably, unexpectedly, and yet without question, I am happy."

Callyn leaned back as she caught the questing tone in his voice, indicating a thought unfinished. She prompted, "But...?"

The sparkle in Richard's eyes turn into a fully-fledged wicked grin as he lifted her off the carpet and plunked her into a chair, "But I'm tired of watching you wear out my carpet! If you feel the need to pace, do it outside!"

One breath. Two breaths. Calynn stared up at Richard in disbelief. Then Richard's smile widened and another chuckle escaped his lips. The sound floated in the air between them for several seconds before being joined by Calynn's own laughter. She rose slowly from the chair and made a grab for her husband to return the favor. He danced out of her reach. She lunged again. This time Richard didn't wait. He took off down the hall at a dead run, yelling back over his shoulder, "First one to the shore claims a prize from the loser!" Hearing that, Calynn threw herself into the chase, certain for the first time that there had been no mistake in her choice.

Quiet days be damned. There were far better things they could be doing.

Possible names for Richard's wife -- anyone have suggestions for a country name while we're at it? )

Thoughts? Is "I'm pissed off" too modern a comment to make for a medieval kind of setting? *frets*
