Fic versus Art/Gifs/photosets

Most of the more specific prompts have been written mostly with fic in mind just because I’m a writer and that’s how my brain works, but there are more nonspecific prompts in the “Likes” sections that I think would make good art prompts? Of course, you are also welcome to delve into the more specific prompts as well if something strikes your fancy. ^_^

I'm honestly game for just about anything you'd like to do with a video, since I know that you're going to be limited by what scenes are available in canon, so feel free to borrow from any of the prompts below if they're helpful or to come up with your own ideas. ^_^ In terms of music... ok, that's a hard one. XD My music taste is quite eclectic.

Мельница – «Прощай» (Official video) (Melnitsa - "Goodbye") is a song I've been obsessed with since I saw it in a Fanghua vid which has since disappeared from Youtube. TT^TT (If anyone has that vid saved and wants to share, I'd love you forever, btw.)

Barns Courtney -- Glitter and Gold -- I also like a lot of his other songs, so feel free to explore. ^_^

Pretty much anything by WILD -- Silver and Gold was the first of their songs I fell in love with and I've made vids of my own for Just Begun and Haunted Heart, but I don't think I've ever heard a song of theirs that I don't like, so have fun? ^_^

The Arcadian Wild -- This is another band that I don't think I've ever really disliked a song from, but my favorite album is their self-titled album, The Arcadian Wild, and a few of their singles: Wolves of the Revolution, The Storm, Envy Green, Dopamine, and Willow. I also like Hey, Runner from the Finch in the Pantry album.

A bit obsessed with the Kill Me Love Me OST song 焰 | Flame.

She Keeps Me Warm by Mary Lambert seems a nice soft song, too. ^_^

Li Lianhua gets injured and Di Feisheng has to take care of him/get him home safely.

Li Lianhua gets sick and Di Feisheng has to take care of him. This can be anything from a minor cold with more fussing than is at all necessary to the canon Bicha poisoning.

Getting together/first time fic: who makes the first move? Is it either of their first times? When does this happen? Does either of them think it’s just sex and if so, how does that complicate things?

Cozy domestic Dihua. Curling up in Lianhualou together, reading to each other, soft, gentle caretaking like bathing together or brushing each other’s hair, soft gentle massages and/or hair petting, sitting inside warm and toasty with blankets and a fire going while snow falls outside (...probably not in Lianhualou for that one XD), IDEK, but just… anything soft, cozy and domestic. ^_^

Li Lianhua taking Di Feisheng out to have some fun somewhere, maybe? The beach? An outdoor festival? Fireworks? <-- (I think these would work pretty well for pre-10 years) Or maybe post-ten years, the two of them trying to find recreational activities they enjoy doing together?

Time Loop: one of them gets caught in a time loop and has to get them out of it, maybe falling in love with the other through the process?

Time travel fix-it: One of them goes back in time and has to decide whether or not they want the course of their time together to change, and if so, what do they decide to change?

Reincarnation AU: either Li Lianhua gets reincarnated into the canon timeline and finds Di Feisheng again or they both get reincarnated into the present day, or Di Feisheng cultivates to immortality somehow and finds Li Lianhua in the future -- this prompt would be my one exception to the "I prefer to avoid modern AUs DNW."

Both Li Lianhua and Di Feisheng have been through so much betrayal in their lives, and neither of them has ever had a chance to process it really. I'd love to see them both get a chance to at least purge some of that or have a good breakdown over it. ^_^

Huli Jing POV: maybe Huli Jing really is a fox spirit or some other kind of demon/spirit/god either hiding in their animal form or who has not yet cultivate to a human form? Or maybe she's just intelligent enough to have a POV as a dog?

I do so enjoy those two episodes where they're both trapped in the dungeon. What if they were trapped together at some point? What if they had to take care of each other? ^_^

Noncon prompts
*coughs* As mentioned, I have a noncon kink a mile wide, so… Li Lianhua gets raped and Di Feisheng has to help him through it/after the fact. (This could be a person or group of people or some creature they encounter… tentacles could be fun… just saying… ^_^) Bonus: maybe Di Feisheng has to watch it happening because he can’t interfere just yet or he’ll get them both killed? That would be a fun twist during the dungeon episodes.

...is a little late? Oops? On the upside, since it's late, I can properly include my Yuletide fic, so that's nice. It's been a slow writing year, but considering how badly my health tanked in April, I'm honestly surprised I wrote anything at all. So, I'm going to try to be grateful for that and proud of what I've written and let that be that. ^_^

As usual, links go to tumblr posts with full warnings whenever possible; the one exception is "i am not eurydice" because I apparently never made a post for that? Oops? I'll fix that eventually, but for now, it links directly to AO3.

Eirenical's 2022 Yuletide Recs

OK, so this year was the first time I ever defaulted on an exchange assignment. I had life things happening that made writing more difficult than I was expecting, and I realized that the best thing I could do was release my recipient from my own struggles so that they might get the fic of their dreams from someone else. It was a very hard decision, but it was the right one. My recip seemed very happy with their gift and it took a weight off my back that left ME free to take care of other things that I needed to.

I was worried, though, about how I would feel come Yuletide collection reveal morning. And it was... weird. I'll definitely say that. But with the weight of stressing about how my own stories were doing lifted off my back, a funny thing happened. For the first time in YEARS, I had the emotional and mental energy to READ. I read SO MUCH. I read in so many fandoms. I left the kinds of comments for people that I always love to see on my own fic. And I had So. Much. FUN. I even put together an AO3 bookmark collection with all of my favorites that I'd read. (...ngl, I'm pretty sure it was everything. The quality of everything I read was incredibly high. You all ROCK.) But because this is the first time that I've been this excited about the collection itself in so many years, I thought I'd make a proper rec post to go along with my AO3 collection.

Yuletide Reading Delay

I received 4 lovely gifts for Yuletide this year, and I haven't been able to read a single one of them yet. And that is VERY unlike me.

I'm so sorry to any of you who wrote me gifts. I'm going to do my best to read them tomorrow. I will DEFINITELY read them before author reveals. It's just... been a rough couple of weeks and then a rougher couple of days on top of that and my head hasn't been up for it.

So, if you've wandered over here hoping to find a clue as to why I haven't commented yet, that's why. I'm excited to read them, but I'd rather not read them when my head it like this, because I don't want my own agita to rub off on what are sure to be some incredible stories judging by the tags and summaries.

OK, so this post is for one very specific reason, because I'm DYING over here and I still want to share this with everyone I know, and I have no doubt that tumblr's filtering system would throw a shit fit over it. So. XD

For those goyim among you, one of the traditions of the Passover Seder (large meal + service held the first or first two nights of Passover) is the Seder Plate. There are six items that go on this Seder Plate: Matzah, Karpas (green herbs, usually parsley at my house), Charoses (apples, nuts, wine, all chopped up to resemble the mortar of building the pyramids in Egypt), a Roasted Egg, a Roasted Shankbone, and Moror (the bitter herb, usually horseradish at my house).

So... the bitter herb.

This year, my mom ended up having to order a lot of the things from our local supermarket, which means we're at their mercy and have to take what they have and can give us. Most everything else was a normal order. But I STG, I have no idea what they thought we needed this horseradish FOR, but, uh...

I HAVE BEEN LAUGHING ABOUT IT SINCE YESTERDAY. SERIOUSLY, WHAT EVEN? XD XD XD

And all I've been able to think about is that my Aunt Sandy would have had a FIELD DAY with that horseradish, and my niece and nephew were just about at the right age for her and my mom to traumatize THEM by teaching them how to put a condom on a vegetable and I'm so sorry they didn't get to have that experience the way me, my sister, and my cousin did 30 years ago. XD

I really do want to try to start using my DW journal more again. Starting to feel lately like there are things I just... don't want to discuss on tumblr. Or back off from making that publicly accessible, at least.

So, here goes, I guess?

I've had this realization slowly percolating in the back of my mind over the past year or so and this morning it kind of solidified into a working theory. And it's weirding me out just a little because it's a major change in how I interact with media and I'm still not sure what to think about it.

I will own up to the fact that I am a shipper at heart. My gateway drug into a piece of media is almost always a ship. With The Untamed it was Wangxian. With Guardian it was Weilan. With DMBJ it's Pingxie. And once I settle in, I tend to multi-ship, but there's usually one main ship that's my go-to.

But what I've been noticing lately is that I fall out of love with ships, and that's usually my first step to falling out of love with the entire canon. But it's not quite as simple as that? It isn't even that I fall out of love with the actual ship. I fall out of love with the entire idea of shipping within that piece of media.

As near as I can tell, it's some weird intersection of me being aro/ace and my ADHD hyperfixation tendency that's doing it. I will be full bore hyperfixated on a ship for however long that lasts... but then at some point my brain remembers that I'm aro af and I don't REALLY have an interest in romance. And I start to lose interest in the ship that got me into the canon to begin with. And at that point, one of two things happens: either I find a new (usually minor or secondary) ship to hyperfixate on, or I slip totally to the side and hyperfixate on the character I headcanon as aro/ace. Sometimes this happens in a slow slide from one to the other.

In TUD, I hovered in Nielan for a while, then landed on Jiang Cheng. In Guardian, I slipped almost entirely away from the fandom, then circled back to land on Da Qing. And it's just... really interesting to me that this is how my brain is working right now. Because it never used to work that way before. O_o;;;

So, now there's a part of me that is living in constant fear of the fact that I'm going to fall out of love eventually with a ship that is currently consuming me. And I know it will be OK on the other side, because here I am, a little baffled, but otherwise OK... but there's a part of me that still mourns the love I had for those ships and those canons.

And I'm also realizing that I'm almost better off if I CAN'T hyperfixate and hyper-consume fandom stuff for a ship, or if the fandom isn't big enough to produce enough content that I can binge it like that, or if I land on a character, instead of a ship, and can multi-ship from the get-go. Like, in Les Mis (apart from my e/R phase... come on, most of us had one XD) I landed on Courfeyrac (and then Feuilly) fairly quickly, and multi-shipped them pretty much from the get-go. And even though I'm not really producing Les Mis content anymore, I'm JUST as in love with Courfeyrac and Feuilly as I was before.

So, I don't know what any of this means, really. I don't really think it has to mean anything. But I think I may start trying to pay more attention to loving individual characters and less... ships? Because I know THOSE loves will hold past the point where I lose interest in the ship. And that's reassuring. ^_^

[DMBJ novels] Behind the Door (snippet)

OK, I know it’s stupid late to be posting a fic snippet, and it's been a very long time since I've posted fic from this blog, but I need to do something to make myself feel better and tumblr is... let's just say I'm not trusting them to protect my stuff at the moment, so here we are. Hopefully people will find it?

This snippet takes place during the last chapters of “Ten Years Later” and will eventually follow the Iron Triangle as they recover from that separation. Enjoy? ^_^ (And yes, the below gif is mine; I did not repost it. I’m just... hopefully temporarily locked out of my main blog. :P)

"What will you do? When this is all over?"

Pangzi turned his head, catching just a glimpse of the man sitting beside him. Pangzi didn't need more than that to know that he had his attention. "Will you go back to the life you knew before? Always chasing the next tomb, the next mystery?" He bumped their shoulders together. "Or do you think you'll be ready to try something new?"

"Something new…?"

Pangzi nodded. "He's going to need time when he comes out. Time to readjust. To remember what it's like to be human and not… whatever it is that he became…"

"Behind the doors."

A soft sigh. "Yeah. We can't expect him to just pick up and go haring off into tombs with us again without missing a beat. Even he may not bounce back from 10 years of solitary confinement so quickly. So what will you do? Leave him somewhere to work it out for himself while you go off having adventures? Or…"

The barest quirk of lips gave him away long before the words emerged. "Or try something new."

A quiet laugh followed those words—breathless, almost mirthless—but it cheered Pangzi to hear it just the same. It had been a long time since he'd heard his friend laugh, seen him smile. The journey up the mountain had taken its toll on all of them, even him. Pangzi nudged his shoulder again. "Well?"

A deep breath, only slowly released, and with it, much of the tension in that lithe frame eased. That tiny quirk of a smile widened, just a hint, just enough. "Would it be premature to retire at my age?"

Year End Word Count Meme 2020

And now... for my 2020 year end word count meme! I... don't imagine it will change much in the next 2 days, so I'm going to go ahead and post it now.

So, exciting things in the spreadsheet this year... I WROTE THINGS. Seriously, guys, this is the best year I've had in terms of word count in a very long time. (Like... 7 years ago kind of long time.) Who knew that this clusterfuck of a year would be the year that got me writing again? XD ...then again, I'm not wasting all my energy on commuting to work and dealing with BEING at work and I'm free to use my downtime at home however I choose. Combine that with finally falling into a new muse fandom? It was a match made in quarantine hell. ;D

Even though I've sort of moved on to other fandoms at this point, I really have to thank The Untamed for that. It was exactly the fandom I needed at exactly the time I needed it, and I made some amazing friends who were very encouraging, too. I'm still kind of... half-in the fandom, and I have some other stories that I would really like to finish for it, so I haven't left it entirely, but that's the fandom that got me going again and it will forever have a special place in my heart.

I never did the year end word count meme for 2013, which is a SHAME because apparently I wrote a metric fuckton. XD So, with <lj-user=zoicite>'s encouragement, I went back and did it retroactively... to the best of my ability. It may not be wholly accurate (especially as regards all the WiPs), but it's as close as I can get.

I almost decided not to post one of these this year. Because holy fuck, I barely wrote anything. :P But I'm going to post it anyway. Because some years are just like that. And that's nothing to be ashamed of. I had a full time job for the first time in a very long time and I had virtually no downtime at any point of the year. So... it is what it is.
