End of an Era
Jun. 9th, 2010 07:12 pmHow does one ruin a spectacular show? You send most (but not all) of its cast to another country. Once there, you lose key cast members to other shows. Meanwhile, you replace the beloved original cast with people who may have popular faces, but lack the emotion and genuine connection that the original cast had... and thus lose your audience in the process. What happens then? Both shows flounder and eventually close.
Curtain closes on Hair @ the Gielgud on September 4th.
Curtain closes on Hair @ the Al Hirschfeld on June 27th.
*sob* I... I don't even know what I'm feeling right now. I want my "Hair" back!
*curls up in the corner and cries*

Date: 2010-06-10 08:10 am (UTC)At least you guys are getting a tour with some of the original cast...and with my current obsession...if Will and Gavin are cast, I'm crossing over the pond to come and see!

Date: 2010-06-10 01:12 pm (UTC)Wait... some of the original cast will be on the tour? I hadn't heard that! That... that might make things a little better. Unfortunately, I doubt Will would be involved, as he's now doing "Priscilla"... but whoever *will* be involved, I'll take it! And if you do come over, you're welcome to stop in and say, "Hi." ^_^
Going to try to get in to see the new cast at least once before the close... at least some of my old faves like Paris Remillard, Nicole Lewis, Jay A. Johnson and James Wooten will be there. *wobble eyes* It won't be the same, but at least it'll be something...

Date: 2010-06-12 07:51 pm (UTC)On the upside, I do have tickets to go see it on Friday. *cheers* So, at least I'll get to see it once more... even if it isn't with the cast I love. :(
BTW, speaking of the cast I love, how did Steel do as Berger? *frets*

Date: 2010-06-14 12:12 pm (UTC)I'm glad you're going one last time before it closes! Ok, it isn't the 'real' cast, but I'm sure it will still be a great evening! Because of a 'landlord' emergency, I didn't go last week :-( Going tomorrow and Thursday so I'll let you know about SteelBerger then!!

Date: 2010-06-14 02:46 pm (UTC)^_^ Me, too! Very excited for Friday! Hopefully it'll fuel more fic ideas. ^_~ Sorry to hear that you didn't get to go last week. :( Hopefully you didn't lose the money on your ticket... but twice in one week is awesome! :D I await your report with baited breath! ^_^

Date: 2010-06-16 07:56 am (UTC)Yesterday...Firstly, was a great show all round. Gavin was on fire as always! Steel...oh baby Steel Berger...honestly, the first scene and Donna had me REALLY worried. He doesn't hold the audience anything like Will did and his singing throughout the show wasn't as strong either, BUT his acting and chemistry with Gavin was brilliant and better than expected. Gonna go watch again tomorrow to get a second opinion though ;-) lol Steel did look hotter than normal as Berger though...not that I'm shallow or anything lol Also I saw Matt DeAngelis play Woof which was pretty ace! He's a sweetie :-)
Hope you enjoy Friday! Glad you're going one last time...althought you do have the tour!!

Date: 2010-06-17 03:30 am (UTC)Gavin... *whimper* ...I really miss Gavin. I can't imagine that Kyle Riabko will even come close to measuring up. :( Is it wrong of me to hope that Paris Remillard will be on on Friday instead? Always wanted to see him play Claude... *wistful sigh*
Yeah, no one quite holds an audience like Will Swenson. ^_^ You know -- it's funny, but I wonder how soon they all knew that Steel was taking over as Berger. Because ever since they first arrived in London, Gavin was posting all of his FB and Twitter about shows they were doing together, hanging out, etc. Makes you wonder if they were working to build that chemistry even then. ^_^ Either way, though, I'm glad for it. A little jealous, but glad. ^_^
Whee! Only 2 more days! :D

Date: 2010-06-17 08:45 am (UTC)So Paris is the Claude understudy then? I've never seen him of course, but I've seen some stuff on youtube and he seems great and he isn't to bad to look at either ;-) hahaha...I hope he's on for you!!

Date: 2010-06-17 02:01 pm (UTC)He's one of them, anyway. ^_^ Normally (unless they've changed it :-P) he's one of the two who sings "What a Piece of Work is Man." And I agree -- he is *not* bad to look at, at all. *_*

Date: 2010-06-18 12:13 pm (UTC)OMG though, Steel was ON FIRE last night! I have found a new level of love for him!!! His chemistry with Gavin is brilliant and his singing was SO MUCH better than Tuesday!
Lots of love and hearts for Mr Burkhardt now lol
