So, in an effort to trick myself into eating healthier and, thus, losing weight, I have decided to start packing my own bento for lunch. ^_^ I'm finding it to be tremendous amounts of fun and have decided to post pictures of some of them so you can enjoy them, too! ^_^
First Bento!:

Oh, and a ziesen Pesach to all! *snugs* ((...even if it's a few hours early... ^_~))
First Bento!:
| First Bento! Not actually having a bento, I opted to use to tupperware containers with interlocking lids. |
Onigiri I made these onigiri using the method described on "Just Hungry" using plastic wrap. It's much easier than the traditional way and the only real difference is using a piece of plastic wrap between your hand and the rice! For those of us whose hands burn easily, it's great! ^_^ Stuffing on the onigiri is a piece of smoked salmon that I broiled (like the crunch ^_^) in a toaster oven. |
| 2 egg tamagoyaki w/ spinach and grape tomatoes Isn't it pretty? ^_^ The brown folded bits are a traditional tamagoyaki (recipe found on "Just Bento" -- a fantastic resource if you're going to get into making bento). This is usually a side dish made with 1 egg, but I liked it so much I made it with 2 eggs and used it as the main dish. ^_^ The green is some blanched spinach and I garnished the corners with red grape tomatoes. |
Onigiri (filling: broiled smoked salmon) and radishes The onigiri, still conveniently wrapped in their plastic wrap -- and yes, they stayed together quite nicely when unwrapped -- with two radishes garnishing the empty corners. |
