[Prince of Tennis] Eiji to the...! (1/1)
Jul. 18th, 2006 12:45 amFirst off, feeling much better about the job thing. This week is fixing to be very stressful, but I think I can handle it. With the sole exception of the afore mentioned boss, all of my other bosses think I'm doing a bang-up wondeful job. *shrugs* I can live with that. It feels good to hear, over and over no less, how wonderful you are and how impressed people are with you. Especially when you'd gotten so used to hearing that you're one short step up from being the village idiot.
Regardless, things are going pretty well. Now if only I could arrange to get out of work on time. These 10 and 11 hour days are really starting to kill me. :-P
Ah well. All that aside, the purpose of this post is... duh-da-da-dun!... A fic! Just a short piece of PoT fluff set in the future of my Misery Loves Company fic. Only by a year or two, but the future, none the less. Inspired by the 15 minute ficlet 161st Word of the Week...

Enjoy the fic!
Even in my wildest imaginings, I never pictured it like this. Don’t get me wrong. Most of the major points are pretty darned close – and I have a fairly vivid imagination. It’s the little details that don’t quite match. It’s my last junior high school dance. My dress is absolutely gorgeous, all lilac silk and lace. I’m the envy of every other girl at the dance because my date is not only devastatingly handsome but he’s also older – in college, no less! So what’s wrong, you ask? My date is my older brother’s boyfriend.
I look up into Eiji-niisan’s eyes and wince him a small smile. Clearly as uncomfortable as I am, he winces one back. I sigh and droop a little further on his arm. Again, don’t get me wrong. I’ve loved Eiji-niisan for almost as long as I can remember. Going to a dance on his arm is like a dream come true, even if it’s only as friends. If only it weren’t for—
“Are you sure you two don’t need anything? Maybe some punch? How about another picture?”
Before Eiji-niisan can even open his mouth to reply, I round soundly on my older brother, “Onii-san! Would you go harass someone else for a little while? Please?? You are here to chaperone everyone, you know.”
Shuuichirou at least has the good grace to look mildly embarrassed. It would figure that my only biological brother would offer to take my father’s place as a volunteer parent chaperone. I swear, having my father here would have been less stressful. At least he knows how to kick back and have a good time.
…And doesn’t make me feel like I’ve a kicked puppy when I’ve told him to get lost. I let out another heavy sigh. Eiji-niisan pats my hand and leans over to whisper to me, “Why don’t you go talk to your friends for a few minutes, Emi-chan? Let me deal with Oishi.”
I nod in relief as I take my leave. I can’t help but think of how cute the two of them are, though – especially Eiji-niisan. All these years and he still hasn’t kicked the habit of calling my brother by our family name. The one time I asked them to explain that one, my brother went beat red and Eiji-niisan couldn’t stop laughing for almost five minutes. Come to think of it… they never did answer me about that one.
I veer away from the two of them just long enough for them to think I’ve actually left, then motion to my best friend, Noriko, and make an abrupt U-turn. Like two giggling elementary school girls we follow the two older men out of the gym and towards the sports fields in the back.
What can I say? You can’t have a brother like mine with a boyfriend like his and not turn into a squealing yaoi fangirl. It’s self defense, really.
We find the pair behind, of all places, the tennis club’s locker room. I suppose old habits die hard. These courts are where they met, after all. My brother is leaning back against a tree trunk and Eiji-niisan is standing in front of him with his arms crossed over his chest. Poor ‘niisan looks so pained… This is going to be good.

“Eiji, you’re missing the point.”
Eiji sighs and shakes his head, “No, Oishi, I’m not. I know exactly what’s going through your head right now. How could I not? Emi-chan is like a sister to me, too! But really, if you can’t trust her with me, who can you trust her with?”
“No, Eiji, that isn’t—“
“Of course it is, Oishi! You’re afraid to let your little sister grow up. Granted, I understand, but you need to cut her some slack. She’s in junior high – almost in high school, in fact. You’re going to have to start letting go eventually.” Eiji looks almost disappointed, “Quite frankly, I expected you to be a little better about this. I thought the whole point to my taking her to the dance was to avoid this situation.”
“What situation?” Shuuichirou is really starting to look annoyed now.
Eiji starts to fume in response, “You’re been following us around all night like you expect me to start molesting her the minute your back is turned! Don’t you trust me?”
“I… I’m not even sure how to respond to that.”
Eiji snorts, “How about something like this: ‘Gosh, Eiji. I’m sorry I made you feel that way. I’ll spend the rest of the dance on the opposite side of the room doing my job while I let you watch over my sister, because I trust you to do it.’ How does that sound?”
Another pained smile, but this time there is a hint of laughter around the edges, “OK. Now I know you’re missing the point.”
Eiji fumes a little more, “Then why don’t you drop back down to Earth and pick me up? Because I’m more than a little lost.”
At this point, Shuuichirou steps away from the tree to gently take Eiji’s face in his hands. “Eiji… I trust you with everything I hold dear – even more than I trust myself on some days. I have utter faith in your ability to care for my sister. That was never the problem.”
Eiji is already starting to go a little gooshy at the knees, but somehow manages to respond, “Then what is the problem, Oishi?”
Shuuichirou lets a whuff of laughter escape his lips, “You are, Eiji. I was completely ready for seeing my sister on a man’s arm tonight… I’m not quite as overprotective as everyone seems to think I am. What I wasn’t prepared for was for the arm to be attached to you. And even though I knew this was the best solution…” Shuuichirou’s voice trails off into a mumble as his hands fall onto Eiji’s shoulders.
Eiji blinks, then reaches up and pulls Shuuichirou’s hands into his. He leans in closer, a playful smile on his face, “I don’t think I quite caught that, Oishi…”
Then Shuuichirou does something… unexpected. He growls out a smattering of words before capturing Eiji’s lips in a far more than polite kiss. And the words were this: “I’m not ready to share you with anyone. Even my baby sister.”
A few breathless moments later, Eiji leans back with a self-satisfied smirk, “I think I got it that time. Want to try repeating it just once more to make sure?”
Shuuichirou’s expression quickly shifts to mirror Eiji’s as he leans in and nips along the shorter boy’s chin, then down his neck, punctuating each bite with a single word: “Mine.”
“Oh… that’s what I thought you said.” Eiji clings to Shuuichirou for another moment before regaining his equilibrium and taking a step back. He clears his throat. “And now, I think we’ve given these two lovely young ladies enough material for one night…”

Eek! Caught! I turn to meet Noriko’s equally horrified expression. This is… beyond embarrassing. But there’s no help for it, I suppose. We stand up from the bushes we’ve been hiding behind and get ready to face the music.
Eiji-niisan looks ready to burst into laughter at any moment and poor ‘Niisan is red as a lobster. He squawks out, “How long have they been there?”
At this, Eiji does laugh. Noriko, thank goodness for her bravery, nonchalantly answers, “Long enough,” and pats a video camera that I hadn’t even noticed she was holding. That’s enough to send me into a fit of giggles. My poor brother looks like he’s about to have a fit of apoplexy. One more smirk on Noriko’s part is all it takes. Shuuichirou takes off after her like an Arthurian knight after the Holy Grail.
Eiji-niisan merely steps quietly back up to my side and offers me his arm, “And now, dear Emi-chan… I believe we never quite got around to that dance…”
I laugh as I take his arm and allow him to lead me back into the gym, “Why, Eiji… I thought you’d never ask!”
Sure, it isn’t quite what I imagined… but as long as I’m having fun, then what the heck does that really matter, anyway?
Regardless, things are going pretty well. Now if only I could arrange to get out of work on time. These 10 and 11 hour days are really starting to kill me. :-P
