Waaaaaah!!!!!!!!! *chibi runs around her apartment like a chicken with her head cut off*

*chibi notes that that is a really morbid comparison*

*chibi will stop speaking in third person now*

I just realized that over the course of the last four days, I have managed to spend almost $400 on movies, clothes and a new cell phone. Granted: I'm going to get $50 back from the phone and it was a necessary purchase, I got three shirts, two pairs of pants and a good pair of gloves for about 2/3 what it all should have cost me, I had a $20 coupon for some of the DVDs and the others were really cheap... but that's still almost $400. *boggles* No more spending for me. Bad chibi. Very bad. *chibi expires* x_x

And I can't believe it... two of the DVDs I bought were SW: Ep. 1&3... and then I caved in and bought Ep. II. I swore that I would never do that. -.-;;; Damn my weak willpower. It was only $10. I can't believe that I thought that justified it. $10 just to watch Yoda fight in one scene and see Obi-Wan in his seedy bar. Oh, and the "Lost a planet, Master Obi-Wan has..." line. *sweatdrop* Because, let's face it, those were the only parts of Ep. II worth watching. Why can I never be content with an incomplete set?

The first thing that struck me about this movie was the title. I honestly--up until I saw it stamped across the top of the movie theatre--thought it was a joke. What a dumb name for a movie! *falls over* First we had The Phantom Menace then we go to Attack of the Clones?? *snerts* Riiiiight.

OK, title issues aside, I was really excited about seeing this movie. I'd been waiting for it for three years and I wasn't going to let my dislike of the title prevent me from enjoying it. I was psyched. Even though my favorite cast member--*sobs for Liam Neeson's Qui-Gon*--was not in the movie, I still loved the rest of the remaining cast and was nearly ecstatic when I heard that Hayden Christiansen got the part of Anakin. I fell in love with him in Higher Ground and I thought he would do a wonderful job in SW, too. :-P So much for that. I don't know what happened, but none of the acting really impressed me. I figured that given three years to learn their parts they'd do a better job with them. *sighs*

But I'm getting ahead of myself. First let me say this one thing about the movie in general: What a disappointment. Now there's something I sure never thought I'd say about a Star Wars movie. But there it is. I was disappointed. Big time. The acting was mediocre, the characters often two-dimensional, the writing almost painfully non-memorable. ((I have to say "Props" and "Kudos" to Master Yoda for delivering the sole memorable line in the entire movie. "Lost a planet, Master Obi-Wan has. How embarassing!" *chuckles* And Yoda's kick-ass light-saber duel with Count Dooku--not to mention his abrupt return to "feebleness" afterwards--were nearly worth the $8.25 it cost me to see the movie. Almost.)) But hey--those special effects sequences rocked, man! -.-;;; *sighs* Someone ought to tell Mr. Lucas that you can't carry a movie solely on special effects.

When I actually sat down to think about it, I think I saw what was really wrong with the movie--like all else in this review, strictly my own opinion--I think Mr. Lucas forgot his audience. One of the things that I always enjoyed about Star Wars was that it was a movie for the intelligent. You needed to be observant to catch all the little nuances and figure out what was going to happen next. Every subtle hint wasn't handed to you on a silver platter. And I think most Star Wars fans liked it that way. We didn't get smacked by the Clue x 4 (TM) every 5 minutes when watching the original trilogy--maybe it was a little worse in Episode One, but for the most part he still managed to keep things fairly subtle. But in II... *groans* ...OK, I admit it must be hard to write a movie when a good portion of your audience already knows almost exactly what has to happen in order to get to the original trilogy. That's no excuse for the way excessive use of the Clue x 4 (TM) in Episode II. Everyone knew that Amidala didn't die in the first explosion. Everyone knew that when she left Coruscant with Jar Jar in charge that Palpatine would use that to take over the Republic. It was just all so blasted obvious that it was frustrating. But maybe that's just me. Some people like to not have to think at all when watching a movie. Some people like SW purely for the eye candy. *shrugs* Personally, once I saw it, I was sorry that I had actually paid the money to see it in the theatre. It really wasn't worth it.

And since I hate to leave a review on a bad note...

Things I liked about the movie ((Yes there were a few.)):
  • Yoda--Yoda kicked ass. Everything about him. 'Nuff said.
  • Amidala's Leia-esque attitude/actions in the arena--I do so love a girl who can kick booty. ^_^ You could so tell where Leia got it. *eg* *blinkblink* OK... I'm wrong. There was one more memorable quote in the movie, and wouldn't you know it was Obi-Wan's? "Oh... I think she's on top of things..."--as Amidala uses her chains to climb to the top of the pillar she's chained to. XD *snickers* That whole scene was pretty awesome.
  • OK, pretty much all the action scenes rocked--SW has always been good for a fight scene. ^_^ I already mentioned the arena fight and Yoda's fight with Dooku, well Obi-Wan's fight with Jenga Fett was pretty good, too. ^_^
  • Jenga Fett and Boba Fett--Little Boba was so cute!! *g* And his relationship with his father was so sweet. ^_^ I really felt bad when Jenga died, though. Wow--imagine, me liking a villain. XD
  • Obi-Wan--OK, I cave. As much as I complained about the acting, Ewan MacGregor still did an awesome job with Obi-Wan. He even had a few good/memorable/even amusing scenes... I just forgot about them once I was swamped with the rushed, overblown, way over-angsted ((wow, did I say that? @_@;;;)) romance between Amidala and Anakin.
  • Obi-Wan's Diner--*snickers* Props to Obi-Wan for finding yet another seedy bar/diner to hang out in. *snickers some more*
  • We got to see the surface of Coruscant--*shrugs* I was curious. Curiosity now satisfied. ^_^

And I think that's about it.

Which, of course, explains why I caved and bought the damned movie, right? *sweatdrop* Uh... no.

*sighs* No more spending for chibi this month. O_o;;; Chibi has more than enough to occupy herself with and does not need to make any more purchases. :-P Except clothes. Because my work wardrobe is depressingly bare now that the weather has changed. O_O

^_^ I feel better now. *waves* Later!
