So, without any further ado…
Dear Rare Pair Fest Author,
First and foremost I'd like to offer up a huge "Thank You!!" to you for writing for me. I know how difficult it can be to put any part of your creative process into the hands of another individual, so I will treat that trust with the care and respect it deserves by not being too greedy or selfish. I am already happy that you are willing to write me a story in a fandom of my choosing and with characters of my choice. It would be the icing on the cake if you are willing to include my other requests, as well, but ultimately if they don't work for you, please feel free to ignore them. ^_^
A note on rating and kink:
Pretty much any rating can fly. I'm always up for a good PWP, but I love a good G-rated piece of fluff just as much. My general reading preferences tend towards slash (or femslash), and unless it's a personal pet pairing (which I will list), I'll confess that het doesn't do much for me. I honestly prefer a good gen story to het these days (and wow, that was weird to admit O_o;;;). If NC-17 is your writing poison of choice, I'm certainly OK with that ^_~, but there aren't too many kinks that work for me. I usually like my fic sex fairly vanilla with the exception of the odd dub-con/non-con/bondage/angry!sex fic. A little power play between friends is all just good fun, though, right? And, apparently pegging or any other such thing which puts a woman in the dominant position over the man… pretty hot.
*coughs* Movingonnow.
A note on general fic likes and dislikes:
I love a good angst-fest. I really do. Hurt-comfort? Yes, please. Unrequited love? Oh, absolutely. Mental and emotional trauma? You had me at "Me--". Boys who can't seem to get a clue and when they do have trouble holding on to it? My bread and butter. Thing is… I love my fluff just as hard. Cuddling in front of a fireplace? Oh, please, gimme. Romantic moonlit walks on the beach? No problems there. Domestic bliss of any kind? Oh, no question. ;) The punchline? I'm in most fanfiction for the character development and interaction. Fight/action scenes? They're OK, but not really my thing. Give me a good navel-gazing, introspective character study with almost no dialogue and a boatload of self-analysis and I'm happy as a clam. Of course… I'm just as thrilled with interactive witty banter and shenanigans. ^_^ Ultimately, it's about the characters for me, though, so I prefer them in-character, even if the setting or situation isn't straight out of the original (though AUs like high school AUs aren't really my thing, either). Also, since it really is all about the characters for me… I'd prefer no original characters.
(Oh, one really strong dislike... please no mpreg. O_o;;;)
I like my stories to have at least the flavor of the original fandom setting/universe, but if you want to change it up within that or set it in the future of the universe, I'm OK with that, too. Excessive dialect use is a bit of a turn-off -- a touch for authenticity is OK, but once it crosses the line into making the dialogue difficult to understand, it's just irritating. Honestly… just about anything else can fly. Like I said, I'm not in this to be too greedy and even though I'm the one requesting this story, you're ultimately the one writing it. I'm not the only one who should be happy with how it turns out. ^_~
Specific Requests (in no particular order):
(Uh, one warning. For a lot of these, I don't have specific prompts in mind. Having done these challenges before, I realize that can be both a blessing and a curse. :-P So, for those for which I have no prompt, I'll try to tell you what I like about those pairings to at least give you a little guidance. Of course, as mentioned above, you're welcome to ignore everything I say if it doesn't work for you. ^_~ Onward!)
1. Firefly; Jayne Cobb/Simon Tam, Jayne Cobb/Malcolm Reynolds/Simon Tam
Optional Details are optional: I just love everything about the snarky bantery goodness that is Jayne and Simon. I love how they're drawn to each other and never quite know why. It probably has a bit to do with jealousy on both sides: Jayne is envious of Simon's intellect and upbringing; Simon is envious of Jayne's freedom to do whatever he wants and to hell with the consequences. That's just… I love that whole back and forth. ^_^ Anything that showcases that would be awesome. As for tossing Malcolm in the middle (heh… Malcolm in the Middle… *snickers* Get it…? Aw… nevermind. -.-;;;), I love how he and Jayne don't trust each other AT ALL… and because of that can trust each other completely. And he's got that same back-and-forth kind of relationship with Simon as Jayne does -- irritated as hell with him and envious to boot, while also recognizing how much he's come to need him on that ship. I'd again, love to see how that plays out between the three of them. Perhaps a little commiserating between Malcolm and Jayne about how irritating Simon is that Simon walks in on? ;)
2. Song of the Lioness - Tamora Pierce, Roger of Conté/Thom of Trebond, Alanna of Pirate's Swoop and Olau/Alexander of Tirragen, Alanna of Pirate's Swoop and Olau/Thom of Trebond
Optional Details are optional: I have a few more specific ideas for this one, so how about we take it one at a time.
Roger/Thom: I love the idea of a power play between these two after Roger is resurrected. Thom spends his whole life trying to prove he's the best and he doesn't need anyone and though he *coughs* no longer has his powers *coughs* Roger is still older, wiser, and far more suave than Thom. He's someone who could have bested Thom if all things were equal. On some level, Thom kind of has to wish that could happen just to take the pressure off of him. And while it can't happen in the dueling ring… maybe it could in the bedroom? ^_~
Alanna/Alex: Oh, Alanna and Alex… Heh. I LOVE a good love-my-rival story. And there is so much feeling on Alex's part for Alanna that there has to be some pretty impressive passion, there. I'd love to see something set before they all find out that Alan is a girl. Maybe Alex realizing that he has feelings for "Alan" and that said feelings aren't permissible and taking it out as aggression. Or even just him angsting over the fact that said feelings aren't permissible.
Alanna/Thom: Uh… twincest is hot and another kink I forgot to mention. Bonus if whatever happens puts Alanna in the dominant position (I refer you back to the pegging discussion… and fingers are OK, too ^_~).
3. X-Men: First Class (2011), Sean Cassidy/Alex Summers, Hank McCoy/Alex Summers
Optional Details are optional: This is another fandom where I really don't have specific prompts in mind, so I'll just tell you what I love about them and you can take it from there. ^_^
Sean/Alex: …really, they're just so sweet. I love how neither one of them is capable of trusting themselves, yet they somehow are able to trust each other. I loved watching them grow in their powers throughout the movie, slowly gaining control and finesse until they reached a point when they willingly put their lives in each other's hands and formed a formidable team in the process.
Hank/Alex: This is another one of those paradox relationships that I love. Hank is so obviously looking for Alex's approval as Alex is the "popular kid" in the group, so to speak, but you can see how he's irritated with himself for wanting that approval, anyway. Alex, on the other hand, makes fun of Hank because it's his default mode (and he probably doesn't even realize how hurtful it is)… and also because he's jealous. Raven is clearly attracted to Hank, Hank is the one who helps Alex control his powers… Hank is clearly the Professor's golden child and he can interact with the world in ways that Alex can't (for safety reasons) and yet he still doesn't feel he fits in.
4. Primeval, Nick Cutter/Stephen Hart, Nick Cutter/Stephen Hart/Connor Temple
Optional Details are optional: Again, one at a time…
Nick/Stephen: OMGFIXIT. *wobble eyes* *coughs* Or if fix-its aren't your thing, just anything showcasing that utter bromancy codependency they have going on would be great. ^_^ Bonus if Stephen saves Nick's ass… again (or there is mention of such ass-saving going on).
Nick/Stephen/Connor: I do have something slightly specific for this. The dodo episode… I'm convinced that Connor and his friend had something going on. I'd love to see a little hurt/comfort going on here. Either Nick and Stephen including Connor for a one-shot deal, or even just them cluing him in that he's not alone in how he felt and he isn't alone now and well… coddling him a bit. Connor needs a little coddling from time to time. ^_^
*deep breath* And I think that's it. Like I said, if any of the details I provided don't work for you, feel free to toss them out the window and write what's most comfortable for you. If you are happy and excited about what you're writing, I'm sure I will love it. Passion comes across and I did not in any way want to dampen yours. ^_^ I certainly won't object if you want to accommodate me in my far-too-verbose additional requests, but as stated many times, totally not a requirement. ^_^ Go with your gut. The fact that you're writing in one of these fandoms for me, at all, is plenty enough to have me thrilled and excited and bouncing for joy. ^_^
