As many of you know, I have gone back to school to get my Masters in education. Why is this important? I'll tell you. ^_^

For one of my classes (Foundations of Literacy), we have to do a project called a "Literacy Walk." It's exactly what it sounds like. You pick a place. You walk around. You take pictures of all the examples of "literacy" that you see, be it signs, symbols, artwork, footprints, you name it. I decided, being as it was the first warmish (and damn you, [livejournal.com profile] zoicite, I did end up walking around with my coat off for a while when I got home! O_O;;;) day since November, that I wanted to do my literacy walk at the beach. Maybe I'll post the pictures sometime if anyone's interested. ^_^

Anyway, what does all this have to do with my faith in humanity? I'm getting there, I'm getting there! Well, I have been told by several people that if one is going to go walking without one's pocketbook, one should have ID, money (or CC) and one's health insurance card on one. I still think it's a good idea. I even have two little beach walking bags to carry said ID with me. Unfortunately, my decision to go to the beach today was a kind of spur-of-the-moment and I didn't have either bag with me. :-P So, into my pocket these things went, along with my Student ID (in case anyone asked questions about me taking pictures).

Cue me enjoying the hell out of my walk and snapping pictures of everything and just having a grand old time. Got back to my car, took off my coat because I was too hot, did a little knitting (a hat that I'm working on that I will post pictures of... eventually ^_^), then went home. At this point, I went to pull out my cards and put them back in my wallet... to find that all but my driver's license were missing. D: Cue me panicking.

I determined that they were not in either pocket, nor in my car. Immediately concluding that I must have dropped them at some point when I'd dipped a hand into a pocket, I ran inside to call my credit card company and cancel my card. Only... my account was closed. D: Cue me panicking some more.

I finally reached a real person, who informed me that whoever had picked up my card had called my credit card company to tell me that they had found it and even left their name and phone number so that I could get in touch with them. My CC company then took that as a cue and canceled my card and reissued me a new one. I reached the woman a few hours later and she did, indeed, have my student ID and my health insurance card in her possession. We had a pleasant little chat in which she had two rather humorous words of advice for me. They were these:

"Zippered. Pockets."

XD After I promised that I would not be so careless again, she said that if I gave her my address, she would happily mail me my cards back. So I did and she is.

Also, in the middle of all this going down, my mother finally found her old wooden peace sign that she used to wear in the 60s. She's been looking for it for me since... oh... February of last year? And she just randomly found it in her desk while she was looking for my credit card number so that I could call and cancel it. *_* And dude... it's gorgeous. Pictures to follow. ^_^

Really? My life never goes this well. Ever. I guess I've hit one of those synchronicity moments they talk about where everything just... goes right. ^_^ Well, let me tell you, universe... I was feelin' the love today and I thank you. Here's to more synchronous moments to come. ^_^

Warm weather.
The beach.
A reaffirmation of my faith in humanity.
My mother's peace sign.
Who could ask for anything more? ^_~

My Mother's Peace Sign

(2/6/11) So, since the time that I decided that I'd been born in the wrong decade (that would be around January/February of last year ^_~), my mother has been promising me that she would give me her old peace sign that she wore in the 60s/70s. Only problem... she then couldn't find it. Sadness. :'( Well... today she did. :D I can't wait to wear it! :D (See? Told you it's gorgeous!)
